The lab

Movement + Method is a weeklong dance intensive designed for freelance dancers and emerging professionals looking to deepen their movement practice, expand their creative range, and develop original material for their professional portfolios.

Each day combines two hours of technique training with four hours of guided creation. Working with an exceptional faculty of choreographers and movement artists, participants explore different approaches to generating, developing, and performing movement material.

Through choreographic prompts, improvisation, theatrical direction, music, text, and prop work, dancers are guided through creative labs to take risks, discover new possibilities, and strengthen their ability to generate, develop, and perform material. Faculty provide individualized feedback and creative direction throughout the process.

Create → Perform → Film

Participants leave with solo footage they can use for performance reels, auditions, applications, and future creative projects.

Over the course of the week, each participant develops a solo created specifically for film. The process culminates in a filmed studio session using considered lighting and framing to capture the work with a performance quality.

Rather than simply learning existing repertoire, participants are supported in creating, devising, and performing material that highlights their individuality as artists.

Who should apply

MOVEMENT + METHOD is for dancers who are curious, collaborative, physically adventurous, and interested in expanding their creative practice. Whether you're developing your voice as a performer and maker, exploring new approaches to movement, or looking to create strong solo footage for your reel and professional submissions, this lab offers the space, guidance, and tools to do so.
